Just Eat now takes orders on WhatsApp. What it means for your shop

The short answer

Since 1 October 2026, Just Eat customers in the UK can browse and build a basket in a WhatsApp chat, then pay in the Just Eat app.[1][2] For your shop, it is another way into Just Eat, not a WhatsApp channel of your own. The chat is on WhatsApp; the customer, the order and the payment are Just Eat's.

What Just Eat launched

  • Ordering in a chat. Customers message, get suggestions, and pick and customise items without leaving WhatsApp.[1]
  • Payment in the Just Eat app. Just Eat says its app is used only for the final payment step.[1][3]
  • Every Just Eat partner. Customers can order from any of Just Eat's 100,000 UK partners, including grocery and retail.[1]
  • Run by Just Eat's own AI assistant, the same one behind the voice ordering it launched in the UK in January.[1]

It followed pilots in the Netherlands and Spain, announced in May.[3]

What it means for your shop

It is still a Just Eat order. The customer is talking to Just Eat, not to your shop, and Just Eat can suggest any of its partners in the same chat. Nothing in the announcements says these orders are treated differently from any other Just Eat order.[1][3]

Just Eat's commission is the published rate on its orders: 14% plus VAT on each order when you deliver it yourself, and 30% plus VAT when Just Eat delivers.[4]

Your customers will get used to ordering food by message. That is good news for any shop that takes orders on its own number, because the habit is the same and the customer already has WhatsApp open.

What to do about it

Keep using Just Eat for what a marketplace is good at: being found by people who have never heard of your shop.

Then make the next order come to you. Put your own WhatsApp number on the bag, the receipt and the door. A customer who messages your number orders from your menu, pays you, and stays your customer, with no marketplace in between.

How EasyOzy fits in

EasyOzy answers your shop's own WhatsApp number. Customers order from your menu, pay online into your own Stripe account, and the ticket prints in your kitchen, already paid. It runs alongside Just Eat, Deliveroo or Uber Eats; you don't have to leave any of them.
